Flu jabs are no joke

It’s the way I tell them — Asda pharmacist Donna Bambrey (left) has a joke-telling masterclass from comedian Christian Lee

Pharmacists will receive a joke-telling masterclass from a Britain’s Got Talent finalist to help improve the efficacy of their seasonal flu vaccinations.

Comedian Christian Lee has helped draft a memo to all 255 pharmacists working for supermarket Asda, following the publication of research that showed that flu vaccinations offered greater protection to patients who were cheerful when they received the jab.

The memo includes a top ten of pharmacy jokes (sample: A sick patient asked his pharmacist: ‘flu?’.’No, I came on my bike actually’), and some tips on how best to tell them.

Asda superintendent pharmacist, Faisal Tuddy, said: “The research was really interesting and lots of our customers have mentioned it, so we thought that we would take it on board and recruited the help of Christian to give us some comedy lessons.

“Putting people’s minds at ease before a vaccination is all part of the service and if we can help put a smile on people’s faces then that’s a great thing to do, and anything else it achieves beyond that is a bonus.”
