The chair of RPS Sussex has stepped down after 46 years’ service with the local practice forum (LPF).

Roy Daisley’s retirement was marked on 27 November 2017 with a celebration at the University of Brighton’s school of pharmacy, when two new co-chairs, Claire May and English Pharmacy Board member Liz Butterfield, took over the role.

They presented him with a book chronicling the history of the RPSGP from 1841 to 1991 and two new coffee mugs as a parting gift.

Daisley’s LPF career began in 1972, when he became secretary of the Brighton and District branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSBG). He held the post until 1984, before becoming chair on two separate occasions.

Following the move from local branches to LPFs, Roy continued to lead what then became the Sussex LPF. In 2014, the group was recognised by the RPS for being the most committed to working in partnership with Society programmes, and that same year Sussex reached the top three nominations for the RPS ‘LPF of the Year’ award.

“It was a privilege to help set the group up from scratch and build on previous relationships,” Daisley said. “I have always felt that members should put something back into the profession that looks after their interests and also to encourage younger members to achieve their aspirations.

“The success of Sussex LPF has also been due to the enthusiasm and support of steering group members, and many other colleagues all over Sussex who have freely given up their time to help with these events.”
