Royal College of Pharmacy elections 2026: Gareth Hughes

Candidate for the National Pharmacy Advisory Council for Wales

I am passionate about inclusive leadership, workforce wellbeing, women’s health and sustainable community pharmacy, and I actively work to amplify member voices, influence policy and ensure pharmacy in Wales thrives for both patients and professionals.

I am a community pharmacist in South Wales and current Royal Pharmaceutical Society Board member, combining frontline experience with professional leadership. In 2022, I purchased Tynewydd Pharmacy. The pharmacy has since won multiple awards, and I was honoured as Independent Community Pharmacist of the Year 2025.

I have held senior roles including superintendent and Welsh clinical lead for multi-site pharmacy organisations and sat on many leadership groups. I was also a pathfinder pharmacist for independent prescribing in Wales, shaping how pharmacists expand clinical roles safely and effectively.

I want to work for a better future for the profession, professionals and patients: “Blessed is he who plants trees under whose shade he will never sit”.
