RPS and CPPE launch Faculty handbook for practice-based pharmacists

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) have published a Faculty handbook for pharmacists on the CPPE general practice pharmacist training pathway (GPPTP), a programme created by Health Education England to equip pharmacists for work in the general practice.

The handbook, which was published on 20 February 2017, aims to support practice-based pharmacists across England, and provides an overview of the RPS Faculty, guidance on how to build a portfolio and prepare for submission, and examples of evidence for pharmacists working in general practice.

The RPS and CPPE have worked together to align the GPPTP assessments with RPS Faculty submission. Work completed in the different assessments, learning sets, study days, self-study activities and practice work of GPPTP can all be put towards a Faculty submission. According to the handbook, having GPPT assessments as part of the RPS Faculty membership offers credentials that are “meaningful to GPs and demonstrate pharmacists’ advanced practice”.

The handbook is also aimed at education and training providers, mentors and employers interested in the GPPTP.
