5 November 2015: The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has been interviewed by BBC Breakfast after The
BMJ warned of the wide availability of sleeping pill zopiclone on the internet. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, an RPS spokesperson said: “Our concerns are two-fold. Firstly, zopiclone is a very safe medicine if used appropriately. It’s fine for short-term use if you have problems sleeping when prescribed by a doctor after diagnosis. Unfortunately those that buy these medicines on websites that aren’t usually regulated pharmacies, they’re exposing themselves firstly to perhaps a misdiagnosis, but also a product that may actually not be legitimate.”
