Gastrointestinal (GI) diseases are made up of a range of conditions that affect the gastrointestinal tract, from mouth to anus. Conditions can be categorised as functional, where the GI tract looks normal but does not function properly and structural, where there is a known cause that disrupts the digestive system.
Symptoms for GI diseases can be painful and debilitating for patients but there are a wide range of treatments and interventions that pharmacists can provide support with.
