Pain can be described as acute or chronic, depending on the duration of the pain and the nature of its onset. Conditions that cause pain can be a source of significant morbidity for patients and the pharmacological management of this can pain can involve medications with addiction potential.
Pharmacists should be aware of conditions that cause pain and be able to advise patients on appropriate self-management, which can include lifestyle advice, as well as knowing when treatment intensification is required to ensure proper pain management is achieved.
