Pain management

Pain can be described as acute or chronic, depending on the duration of the pain and the nature of its onset. Conditions that cause pain can be a source of significant morbidity for patients and the pharmacological management of this can pain can involve medications with addiction potential.

Pharmacists should be aware of conditions that cause pain and be able to advise patients on appropriate self-management, which can include lifestyle advice, as well as knowing when treatment intensification is required to ensure proper pain management is achieved.

Our collection of resources relating to pain and its management have been organised into categories that can be accessed via the icons above or directly from the sections below.

You can also take our self-assessment quiz to test your knowledge and help identify areas of interest.
