Prescription Charges Coalition launches survey into long-term conditions

The Prescription Charges Coalition (PCC), a body of over 40 organisations including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), has launched a survey investigating the impact of prescription charges on people in England with long-term conditions.

The PCC is calling for all those with long-term conditions to be exempted from prescription charges. At the moment, most people in paid employment have to pay a charge for their medicines, and this financial barrier leads to many people rationing their medication, with serious impacts on their health and quality of life, the PCC argues.

Drugs for certain long-term illnesses are exempt from prescription charges but the PCC says the list of exempt conditions is limited and out of date, having been set out in 1968 and largely unchanged since then. The new survey will provide up-to-date information on the impact prescription charges have on working people with long-term conditions.

The survey can be accessed at http://surveys.parkinsons.org.uk/s/YS3LK/ and will close on 30 April 2017.
