Atif Saddiq appointed chair of RPS Early Careers Pharmacist Advisory Group

Atif Saddiq has been appointed as chair of the newly formed Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Early Careers Pharmacist Advisory Group — a post he will hold for three years.

In a statement published on 9 July 2020, the RPS said the group will “provide external representation for early career pharmacists to ensure that they are recognised as crucial stakeholders in the pharmacy sector across England, Scotland and Wales.”

The Society added that it will focus on identifying the needs of early career pharmacists in the areas of professional development, practice support and advocacy.

Saddiq, a portfolio pharmacist who currently works as a lecturer at the University of Bradford, said he was “delighted” to take up the position, adding that the group will “work to help provide direction for our peers to allow them to achieve their ambitions”.

“We often hear that pharmacists feel frustrated, not always being able to use the breadth of their core skills and knowledge,” he said. “This group will create new opportunities for younger pharmacists and provide guidance to inspire, inform and involve them in creating a professionally rewarding future.”

The RPS is also seeking volunteer members to be part of a wider reference group of early career pharmacists. Members, who must have qualified within the past ten years, will work alongside the advisory group.
