Regulator funding

Changes to the Health and Social Care Act 2012 mean that the UK Government will no longer fund the oversight of the General Pharmaceutical Council and other healthcare regulators. The regulators themselves must now fund the new Professional Standards Authority, which replaces the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence. They are consulting on a preferred proposal to set fees according to the number of registrants, to avoid undue burden on smaller regulators. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is responding to the consultation, and members are invited to submit their views to inform this response (email aileen.bryson@rpharms.com).
