Tribute
Ian George Todd was born on the 21 September 1944. Apart from being a pharmacy student at Bradford, he always lived in the Burnley and Padiham area. He registered as a pharmacist on the 20 January 1969. He died peacefully at his home in Padiham, Lancashire, on 3 September 2025.
A highly respected pharmacist, Ian started his career working for Hartley’s chemist in Burnley, being promoted to manage the Darwen branch later. In 1976, the opportunity arose to buy Harry Holt and Eric Ingham’s chemist shop in Padiham, which he did and enjoyed many happy years running. During his time as a pharmacy proprietor, Ian was a pillar of the local community — the sort of pharmacist who makes us proud to belong to the same profession. Ian was also proud to be a local businessman and always liked to support other local businesses; that was very important to him.
Ian retired in 2007, but kept the chemist with his nephew, also named Ian, taking on the responsibility of pharmacist that he still holds to this day.
He was an active member of his local church, St Leonard’s. Around 1965, I remember him explaining his perception — aided by drawing a diagram — of how God connected everything. He enjoyed watching cricket, supporting the local Padiham cricket team.
Ian was the husband of the late Gwen, father of Rachel and Mark, father-in-law to Nick and Ryan, brother of Ann, brother-in-law to Peter, uncle of Charlotte and Ian and great uncle.
Ian was a kind-hearted gentleman, a doting family man and a valued friend who is deeply missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time.
