Boots UK has announced that it plans to cut up to 350 management posts as part of its strategic workforce plan.
The company says redundancies are on the cards but it hopes to achieve some of the cuts through natural wastage, redeployment and retraining.
It is also training more shop floor assistants to become multi-skilled customer advisers offering specific help to shoppers, especially around its No 7 beauty range. New academies will be established to deliver the training which will target staff in 200 of its stores.
The company has also announced that it is outsourcing the management of its customer support and contact centres to Teleperformance from March 2016. The deal means around 400 existing Boots staff in Nottingham will transfer to their new employer, but they will retain their existing terms and conditions.
A spokesperson for Boots confirms that none of the changes will affect the pharmacy team.
She says the company is continuing to invest in the pharmacy workforce and has recently developed the new role of pharmacy advisor. These are individuals who have a level two qualification in pharmacy service skills and are typically pharmacy dispensers who want to progress.
