Pharmacists deliver 1 million flu jabs

Flu vaccination being administered

More than 1 million flu vaccinations have now been administered by community pharmacists this year, beating last year’s total of 950,000.

The million jab mark was reached in just over two months since the service went live on 1 September 2017. A total of 950,765 vaccinations were delivered by pharmacists over the whole of the 2016–2017 winter season, which ran until the end of March.

Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) director of NHS services, Alastair Buxton, said: “This is a hugely significant milestone for community pharmacy teams across the country and it is a testament to their hard work, dedication and commitment to deliver the best service to their patients, despite the pressures and financial setbacks facing the sector. This achievement demonstrates what community pharmacy is capable of, given the right opportunities.
