Rose Marie Parr has been appointed as the new chief pharmaceutical officer for Scotland, succeeding Bill Scott, who retired on 31 March 2015, after 22 years in the post.
Parr has held the post of director of pharmacy at NHS Education for Scotland (NES) since its inception in April 2002 and has worked in the pharmaceutical profession since 1982. She is also an honorary professor at both the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and the University of Strathclyde at Glasgow.
The primary role of the chief pharmaceutical officer is to provide professional leadership to NHS pharmaceutical care in Scotland and to be the policy lead for NHS pharmaceutical practice in the community, primary care, secondary care and public health.
“This professional leadership role provides huge opportunities to drive forward further improvements in pharmaceutical care for patients, families and carers at the centre of the NHS in Scotland,” says Parr.
