Public Health England has created a Health Improvement directorate that will join up a number of teams, including staff working on alcohol, drugs, diet and obesity.
The new directorate will also look at health equity and mental health, screening and quality assurance, national disease registration, and research, translation and innovation.
“Creating a Health Improvement directorate allows PHE to closer align surveillance, data, evidence and research capability with policy expertise,” said PHE, in a statement on its website.
A spokesperson for PHE explained that the public health pharmacy function sits within the ‘Healthy People’ team.
“The PHE restructure does not change this and will not affect local pharmacy services, and PHE will continue to provide national advice and support for public health in pharmacy,” he said.
