The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has accredited Rowlands Pharmacy as an RPS Foundation Training Provider, making it the first pharmacy to be given this status.

It was given accreditation in recognition of its Rowlands Foundation programme, which took on its first cohort of pharmacists in August 2015. Rowlands Pharmacy already works closely with schools of pharmacy across Great Britain.

The programme is aimed at supporting the growth of pharmacists entering the profession or early on in their careers through face-to-face development sessions, peer support from experienced pharmacy managers and the use of online learning tools.

Catherine Duggan, the RPS director of professional development and support, explains that the accreditation highlights Rowlands’ “commitment to excellence” and assures pharmacists that their training meets the highest standards, in line with the Society’s Foundation Pharmacy Framework.

“We look forward to accrediting more RPS Foundation Training Providers in the future,” she says.

Kenny Black, managing director of Rowlands Pharmacy, adds: “We see foundation training as the next stage in equipping and enabling our early years pharmacists for their professional role in their local community.”
