The publishing division of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) will donate around 5,500 copies of its titles to charities working overseas, it has announced.

Pharmaceutical Press (PhP), which publishes
The Pharmaceutical Journal
, will supply new and used copies of four titles to the Pharmaid, Book Aid International and Saltram Rotary Overseas Project Team charities.

The titles include the British National Formulary (BNF) 67, BNF for Children 2013–2014, Stockley’s Pocket Companion 2014, and Martindale 37th edition. The donated titles are new, overstocked copies that would otherwise have been pulped.

In addition, Book Aid International will distribute old copies of the titles collected from the RPS offices ahead of the move to new headquarters this year.

The charities will distribute the books to libraries, pharmacists, doctors and other health professionals in Cameroon, Dominica, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Guyana, Kosovo, Palestine, Somalia and Somaliland, South Sudan, St Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago.

PhP is encouraging RPS members to donate recent copies of the BNF to Pharmaid via the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association, and other titles to Book Aid International.

Each year, Pharmaid distributes 5,000–8,000 recently outdated copies of the BNF to 45 Commonwealth developing countries.
