On 3 April 2020, Kouser Chaudry sadly passed away from terminal breast cancer aged 54 years.
Kouser graduated from John Moores University, Liverpool, and registered with the then Pharmaceutical Society in August 1987. She served in several hospitals, beginning at the Royal Brompton, London. She went on to put together a multidisciplinary healthcare team in the London borough of Brent, with the aim to deliver a one-stop approach to the management of older people with complex healthcare needs. In 2000, she was awarded the National Pharmaceutical Care Award for her innovative work.
Working in the Chiltern and Luton primary care trusts, she was responsible for service development and supporting several GP practices. Kouser continued to pursue her academic interests during her day-to-day role as a pharmacist, completing her MSc in health sciences at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, as well as an MBA in public services management at Aston Business School, Birmingham.
She was a dedicated practitioner who was passionate about serving the NHS, and continued to do so as a performance inspector for the Care Quality Commission.
Kouser was a loving, generous and caring person, who always displayed patience and perseverance. She was emotionally strong and had a witty sense of humour, even during the last stages of her life. She leaves behind a husband and three happy and healthy children. Kouser was full of life and an inspirational woman who will be missed.
Her parting words were ”I don’t want people to be sad, I have been blessed with so much and [God] has spared me so much suffering which I have seen others endure.”
