Tribute to Peter West

Peter worked and tutored a range of pharmacy disciplines in Huddersfield Royal, Seacroft Hospital, St James’ Teaching Hospital and Battle Hospital, Reading, before becoming staff pharmacist at the Royal Hallamshire in Sheffield.

After moving to Wirral Health Authority in 1987 as staff pharmacist in clinical pharmacy at the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology, he developed a particular interest in palliative care therapeutics. Appointed as a pharmaceutical advisor to the Family Health Services Authority (Liverpool), he worked with GPs from all across the district and presented to students at Liverpool John Moores University, spreading his well-earned knowledge and experience.

He continued developing his career through management posts in cancer services and directorial positions for the Liverpool PCT until 2008, when he left the NHS and returned to working directly with the community. He held positions at Boots and Speeds Pharmacy in Mynydd Isa, and continued to display both his professionalism and compassion for those he both worked with and served.

Peter died peacefully at home on 21 January 2015, aged 57 years. A loving husband to Angela and a proud dad to Georgina, Emily and Loz — a brilliant character, and a huge loss.

The funeral service will be held at Blacon Crematorium on Thursday 12 February 2015 at 3.20pm — please wear something brightly coloured. Family flowers only, but donations in Peter’s memory to the Palliative Care Charitable Fund of the Countess of Chester Hospital are welcome. Contact 01244 300 422 for further detail.
