Tribute to Roy Wright

Roy Wright MRPharmS, of West Hill, Ottery St Mary, Devon, died on 4 January 2016. Roy registered in 1959 and worked in pharmacies in Cambridge, Newmarket, Burwell and Wokingham before moving to Ottery St Mary in 1971. He took over the Ottery business in 1973, which he ran with the help of his wife Ruth. After selling the business in 1993, he continued to work as a locum pharmacist in the East Devon area until 2007.

Roy’s main concern was always to give his customers the best service possible, whether by going out of his way to deliver to those in rural locations who were too unwell to travel into the town or by opening the door to customers after the shop had closed.

He had particular interests in allergies, asthma and additives and campaigned for colourings not to be used in antibiotics.

Roy was active in the local community, only slowing down in recent years because of ill health. He took a prominent role in Ottery in Bloom and acted as a trustee and volunteer for the Ottery Help Scheme. He was also a trustee of the Ottery Hospital League of Friends.

His vitality, humour and enthusiasm will be much missed.
