Peter Penson
Peter Penson is professor of pharmacy practice and head of subject for pharmacy at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. He is the co-leader (with Alice McCloskey) of the Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics Research Group within the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences He is an honorary research associate at the University of Liverpool, UK, and an active member of the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science. In addition, Penson is editor in chief of the Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology, associate editor of BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology and a section editor of Archives of Medical Science: Civilisation Diseases. He was previously executive editor of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has conducted research at Cardiff University and the University of Surrey, both in the UK, and at the University of Regensburg, Germany. Penson’s research interests include cardiovascular pharmacology and clinical outcomes in cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on hypertension, dyslipidaemias and ischaemia-reperfusion injury. He is primarily involved in observational studies, clinical trials and meta-analysis. He is a member of the International Lipid Expert Panel and works with international experts in the Lipid and Blood Pressure Meta-Analysis Collaboration Group. A pharmacist, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, Penson is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, and a member of the European Atherosclerosis Society, the British Pharmacological Society, the British Society for Cardiovascular Research and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
