Mair Davies, Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) director for Wales, will retire from the Society in July 2019.

Davies was appointed director for Wales in 2015. Prior to that, she spent four years as chair of the RPS Welsh Pharmacy Board). She received the RPS Charter Award in 2014, and became a Fellow of the Society in 2015.

Announcing her decision, Davies said that she’d had a “very fulfilling and happy career in many sectors of pharmacy, and the past four years working for the RPS have been particularly rewarding”.

She extended her thanks to RPS colleagues and Board and Assembly members, saying: “I will miss you all, but especially the enthusiastic and driven team we have in Wales who work so hard to deliver the ‘One Pharmacy Voice’.”

Suzanne Scott-Thomas, current chair of the Welsh Pharmacy Board, described Davies as a driving force for Welsh pharmacy: “She has always been a true advocate for the profession and how pharmacy can improve patient care and experience in all sectors. Mair has passionately delivered these messages to the Welsh government and NHS Wales, resulting in a number of successes such as the increasing number of pharmacists now working with GPs and in primary care.”

Paul Bennett, chief executive of the RPS, thanked Davies for “her support to me personally and for her energetic contribution to the executive team”.

“I would like to recognise in particular her recent time as interim director of education and her great work with the team to make the Welsh Medicines Safety Conference such a success.”

Davies will now work with Bennett, Scott-Thomas and Robbie Turner, director of pharmacy and member experience and executive lead for the country teams, to arrange the appointment of a successor.
