The Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) has seen “tens of thousands” of referrals directed to community pharmacy from NHS 111 since its launch on 29 October 2019, NHS England has said.
In an email bulletin distributed by NHS England, Keith Ridge, chief pharmaceutical officer for England, said the service has seen “more than 10,500 community pharmacies” sign up.
“The uptake has been massive and it has already taken tens of thousands of referrals in its first few weeks, and I’m pleased to report that the service is proving safe and effective,” he said.
“This really is impressive and will continue to build confidence in the capability of the sector to take on further clinical responsibilities.”
His comments come after an analysis by The Pharmaceutical Journal in October 2019 revealed that, based on referral rates before the CPCS’s launch, pharmacists would only receive £35 per month for the service at launch.
