On 3 October 2024, Mr Alan Hall MPharmS, aged 89 years, of Wigan, Greater Manchester. Mr Hall registered with the Society in 1957.
Alan Fairhurst Hall passed away on 3 October 2024 surrounded by his family.
Alan was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He lived his entire life in Wigan, Greater Manchester, and was very proud of his connection to the ancient and loyal borough.
As a student, he attended Wigan Grammar School and the University of Manchester, where he studied pharmacy. He was a proud member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society for more than 64 years. He married Sheila in 1960 and they had three daughters, seven grandchildren and three great grandsons.
Sheila recalls he was always so involved in business life, serving on various medical committees with the patients’ needs and welfare at heart. He had a long and successful business partnership with Milton Hepworth and built a mini empire of pharmacies and optical practices in the local area, at the same time as bringing up his treasured family.
Alan was a keen tennis and badminton player but never took to golf because it took him away from work and family for too long. He loved sport, in particular rugby league, and he enjoyed watching Wigan Warriors at home and away. He also travelled overseas to watch Wigan and Great Britain in the Isle of Man, Australia and New Zealand. Even in his 80s he managed to catch England playing cricket in Cape Town, South Africa, with his grandsons.
Alan loved travel and saw foreign visits to the Middle East, Japan, South Africa and the Caribbean, but one of his favourite places in the world was Anglesey. He liked Beaumaris in particular, where he bought a property in retirement and celebrated many special occasions there, including two family weddings.
A life well lived, he will be missed.
