Claire Anderson, president of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), has received the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s (FIP’s) Distinguished Service Award.
The award — which recognises exceptional and distinguished service to the FIP, as well as outstanding contributions to the global advancement of pharmacy — was presented to Anderson during the opening ceremony of the 2025 FIP Congress, held between 31 August and 3 September 2025 in Copenhagen.
Anderson was recognised for decades of contribution, helping to develop and improve pharmaceutical education across the world, including as former president of the FIP’s Academic Pharmacy Section and work with the FIP’s pharmacy education taskforce.
While accepting the award, Anderson said that it was an “incredible honour” and thanked those who nominated her, adding that it had been a highlight of her career to “be involved with [the] FIP over many years”.
In reference to the FIP’s pharmacy education taskforce, Anderson said: “Being able to work agilely with colleagues, now lifelong friends, from across the world to play our part in developing pharmacy education and workforce, along with WHO [the World Health Organization] and UNESCO, is something I am very proud of.”
Anderson also offered her gratitude to her former colleagues from the FIP’s Academic Pharmacy Section, noting how they had helped turn it into the “vibrant section it has become today”.
She also thanked colleagues at the University of Nottingham and the RPS.
“I care deeply about the future of pharmacy, science and education, and as [the] FIP transforms, I hope the great work we began in pharmacy education continues to develop and expand,” she said.
Paul Bennett, chief executive of the RPS, commented: “Claire’s award is richly deserved and reflects her lifelong dedication to the profession. Her international leadership and passion for education continue to shape the future of pharmacy both in the UK and globally.
“We are incredibly proud to see her achievements recognised on this global stage,” he added.
