On 10 March 2024, Godfrey Bedford FPharmS, aged 85 years, of Honley, West Yorkshire. Mr Bedford registered with the Society in 1961. He was a Fellow of the Society.
Huddersfield Pharmacist Godfrey Bedford, aged 85 years, passed away on Sunday 10 March 2024. A Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), Godfrey Bedford registered with the Society in January 1961.
Godfrey was an active member of the Huddersfield branch of RPSGB for many years, notably being involved with ‘The Men’s Dinner’. He was renowned for leading the singing of a hearty chorus of ‘Pratty Flowers’, also known as ‘The Holmfirth Anthem’.
As a newly qualified pharmacist, I worked with him in his independent community pharmacy. He was an excellent pharmacist and I learnt a lot from watching and listening to him counselling patients and advising them on over the counter medicines. He was very professional and everything was wrapped very neatly in ‘white demy’ paper with a dab of red sealing wax.
Besides his love of the profession he also had a keen interest in photography having completed a Kodak course in London. Many of his outstanding photographs were donated to the photographic department at the University of Huddersfield for teaching purposes, as he wanted the students to benefit from his work.
He also had a keen interest in the work of the pharmacy students at the University of Huddersfield.
Godfrey was proud to be a Fellow of the RPS and he attended the Fellows’ dinner for years until he was not able to travel to London, where he also often visited the Masonic Hall.
He was admired by many pharmacists and he will be missed by all who knew him.
