Matt Hancock has been reinstated as health and social care secretary following the general election held on 12 December 2019.

Hancock, who retained his seat as MP for Suffolk West, was appointed to the role of health and social care secretary in July 2018.

In a Twitter post by the Department of Health and Social Care published on 18 December 2019, Hancock said it was “great to be back”.

In the tweet, Hancock set out four priorities “to take the NHS and the social care system forward”, which he said included building 40 new hospitals and upgrading 20 hospitals; increasing the nursing workforce; improving technology; and creating 50 million more appointments in primary care to improve illness prevention.

Jo Churchill has also retained her role as pharmacy minister after keeping her seat as MP for Bury St Edmunds. She was appointed to the role of pharmacy minister in July 2019.

Meanwhile, pharmacist Taiwo Owatemi was elected as a Labour Party MP, with a majority of 208 votes in Coventry North West. The seat was previously held for the Labour Party by Geoffrey Robinson, who stood down before the election.
