Tributes

Rhona was a warm, fun, caring pharmacist who went out of her way to help her fellow pharmacists when they needed representation.

Rhona was one of the long-standing executive board members of the Boots Pharmacists Association (BPA), passionate about fighting the corner for Boots employee pharmacists. When I was first elected to the BPA Executive Board, she was a great mentor and support as I navigated my way through the process of representing fellow pharmacists. As treasurer of the BPA, she was diligent in ensuring the books balanced, that the minutes of board meetings were scrupulously correct, and that all executive board members were fully compliant with union standards.

Rhona was also a long-standing member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), and was delighted when, earlier this year, the vote to become a royal college was successful.

With a great sense of Scottish humour, her pride in the success of her children, and her passion for our pharmacy profession, Rhona has been taken away far too soon. But she has left her mark in our hearts and will be fondly remembered.

Sibby Buckle, former member of the BPA executive board; member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) English Pharmacy Board and former treasurer for the RPS

What I remember about Rhona was that she cared so deeply about our BPA board meetings wanting them to run smoothly and stress free for her fellow board members. She was so dedicated, which shone through in her organisation of even the tasks like our accommodation, coffee and lunchbreaks. Notes from minute from previous meetings, Rhona we could count on she always had on hand. Not only a brilliant professional who kept up to date and completed her independent prescribing recently, she was a family woman who when we chatted loved to talk of her husband and children. She was so proud of Her daughter Ursula completing her midwifery.

She also loved her home Scotland. One of my last memories of a conversation with Rhona was she wanted the BPA board to visit Scotland. When I myself was going through grief not so long ago Rhona recognised I was struggling and called me to offer to help. I won’t forget this thoughtfulness and kindness. We both loved and looked forward to camembert for lunch.
