The RPS Ultimate Guide to the Falsified Medicines Directive

With one month to go until the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD) goes live, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has published practical guidance to help pharmacists meet the Directive’s requirements.

The ultimate guide to FMD lists the preparations that pharmacists will need to make in time for the implementation deadline of 9 February 2019. It also offers advice on how to deal with a range of patient-facing scenarios that could arise once the system is live. Sector-specific guidance is provided in the form of signposting to external information sources, including NHS Digital, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and FMD Source.

“FMD will bring the biggest change to the medicines supply chain that we’ve seen in decades,” said Ivana Knyght, head of professional support at the RPS. “It’s vital that pharmacists are prepared for this: it will affect every sector of practice in some way.

“Everyone should be ramping up their preparations ready for the launch in a month’s time. Our professional support team can help with any questions about what to do.”

The ultimate guide to FMD can be accessed on the RPS website. Specific questions can be addressed to the RPS’s professional support service on 0333 733 2570 or 020 7572 2737, or by emailing support@rpharms.com.
