Tribute: John Morris

My father became a member of the then Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1958, having qualified as a pharmaceutical chemist in Portsmouth, Hampshire. He then joined multiple pharmacy chain Boots, working initially in retail pharmacies within his hometown of Bournemouth before moving on to more senior roles on the Channel Islands and in London. He moved to the company’s headquarters in the medical information department in Nottingham.

In 1968, he moved to a role in the cosmetics industry, joining Avon Cosmetics. Initially based in Northampton but later London, John led the ingredients sourcing team with responsibility for supplying Avon’s worldwide manufacturing facilities.

His charismatic and engaging personality enabled him to build a worldwide network of friends and associates. He remained at Avon for 29 years until his retirement in 1997.

He sadly passed away on 13 May 2021 and will be sorely missed by his wife, family and wide network of friends across industry and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
