Case-based learning: menopause and HRT consultations — transcription (audio clip six)

Nuttan Tanna: When it comes to actually somebody complaining of low libido, it’s a slightly different context, isn’t it? When the patient is complaining of low libido, it means that she’s saying that, ‘Actually, my partner wants to engage in intimacy, but I’ve got low libido, and I don’t want to.’ Now, if that’s the scenario, then you have to explore the context a little bit more. Is it because there are relationship issues, and do they need psychosexual counselling? And then, if it’s psychosexual counselling and there’s a comfort zone, then she’ll be fine, and she will engage. But if she’s saying, ‘I’ve got low libido,’ and actually you will put a management strategy in place where I will engage, and I will actually be intimate with my partner, but then I’m worried about the fact that I might get pregnant.
