RPS elections 2024: Gareth Hughes
Welsh Pharmacy Board candidate
Gareth is a community pharmacy contractor and independent prescriber, and formerly deputy superintendent and Wales clinical lead at Avicenna. He was first elected to the RPS Wales Board in 2021.
Having delivered prescribing services since the 2019 pathfinder, Gareth is enthusiastic on expanding scope of practice and acting as DPP supporting other pharmacists. Passionate about pharmacy services and the use of technology in health, Gareth has sat on a number of clinical and digital working groups.
As the longest serving pharmacy collaborative lead in Wales, Gareth is focused on fostering and improving collaboration both between pharmacy sectors and between pharmacy and other healthcare professions more broadly.
Serving on several boards and committees, such as CPW, RPS, Welsh Pharmaceutical Committee, EPS Expert Panel and Choose Pharmacy Clinical Group, has allowed valuable insight into professional leadership and decision making on striving to drive the profession forward for the benefit of pharmacy professionals and the public we serve.
