Article types and word count guides
The Pharmaceutical Journal uses a range of article types:
- Editorials 350–600 words (referred to as ‘Leaders’ and written in house);
- News >250 words;
- Research briefings 150–180 words (referred to as RIBs);
- News analysis 1,200 words (+250-word box);
- Features 2,200 words (+200-word box);
- Infographics No word count;
- Podcasts No word count;
- Comments 1,300 words
- Insights 1,300 words;
- Q&A s 1,500 words (Interviews; these could appear in the Opinion, Career or Your RPS section);
- Blogs 600 words;
- Correspondence No word count;
- Obituaries 700 words (rarely published, but done so when a particularly notable figure in the industry dies);
- Learning Generally 2,000 words (non-peer-reviewed articles; may be pharmaceutical, soft skills, or case-based learning);
- CPD Generally 2,000 words (peer-reviewed, focused, evidence-based learning content that is useful for revalidation);
- Research 3,000 words (peer-reviewed innovations and initiatives that can improve pharmacy services);
- Review 3,000 words (peer-reviewed overviews of the literature on a given topic);
- Perspective 3,000 words (peer-reviewed, evidence-based articles that seek to stimulate a debate or converstion);
- Professional skills Generally 1,500 words
- Announcements No word count; (including deaths, tributes and annoucements from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society).
