Abacus Medicine is expanding its business in the UK. With an agreement to buy 342 licenses corresponding to more than 170 products from Chemilines Ltd the company has now taken a big step to becoming a supplier to the UK’s pharmacies. The company already supplies medicine to the UK’s private hospitals.

The agreement was made possible by the decision of Chemilines Ltd.’s owners to sell their licenses and retire after 40 years of activity. Chemilines Ltd is recognised as one of the leading pharmaceutical importers and distributors of branded medicines and generics in the UK.

Richard Edwards, Business Development Manager for Abacus Medicine in the UK, says: ”This is great news for Abacus Medicine, firstly because we are able to keep these products on the shelves at a time when they are most needed – especially in the UK, where we are currently facing significant medicine shortages affecting a wide range of pharmaceuticals. Additionally, this opportunity aligns well with our ambition to expand our collaboration with wholesalers and pharmacies in the UK”.

The Board of Directors of Chemilines, Ravi and Jagdish Karia, expressed their gratitude for the privilege of serving customers for the past 40 years and are delighted that Abacus Medicine will now continue the work as a reliable partner for many wholesalers and pharmacies in the UK.  They will be writing to customers individually in due course.

Following the agreement, the regulatory process necessary to officially transfer the licenses from Chemilines Ltd to Abacus Medicine has begun and is expected to be finalised during the second half of 2025. Later this year, Abacus Medicine will begin supplying pharmacies through wholesalers in the UK.
