Edoxaban switching scheme: worth the risks?

GP practices in England are being paid millions of pounds to switch up to a third of patients to edoxaban, currently the cheapest choice of anticoagulant for the NHS. However, switching is not always straightforward and there is speculation that patients will need to be switched again in the future.

Switching patients to new therapies is not always straightforward, but when it comes to anticoagulants it can be particularly complex. A lot of prescribers have to work closely with their patient to find the right anticoagulant for them because the side effects and potential risk of bleeding can be serious.
