A further 68 Jhoots pharmacies have been acquired by Allied Pharmacies, in addition to the 61 it acquired earlier in 2025, the firm has announced.
The Jhoots stores, formerly owned by Sarbjit Jhooty, were sold following concerns around the chain, including reports of unexpected closures, poor service and allegations that locum staff have not been paid.
The branches most recently bought by Allied Pharmacies are located across England and Wales, including stores in London, Kent, Glamorgan and Derbyshire; see Table for full list.
In October 2025, Jhooty exclusively told The Pharmaceutical Journal that he was selling and remortgaging stores in order to pay staff wages and rent.
The sell-off included disposing of “30 stores”, with Jhooty adding that he would sell more if necessary.
In November 2025, Allied Pharmacies announced that it had bought 60 Jhoots stores.
It was announced in December 2025 that a separate 21 stores owned by Manjit Jhooty had rebranded from Jhoots to JHL Pharmacy
Commenting on the latest acquisition announcement, Sadik Al-Hassan, Labour MP for North Somerset — an area that has been affected by Jhoots closures — told The Pharmaceutical Journal that he was glad to hear that “more pharmacies are moving out of the Jhoots umbrella”.
“Community pharmacy serves a vital role in the health of the nation, especially during times of winter pressures and our communities deserve access to the services provided by our pharmacy teams day in and day out,” he added.
In a statement issued on 31 January 2025, Allied Pharmacies said it was focused on bringing its newly acquired Jhoots pharmacies “back to full operational capacity as quickly as possible to safeguard patient care, while also acknowledging the former Jhoots employees for their commitment and resilience during this challenging time”.
“[Staff] will receive the same consideration and care as those supported during the earlier acquisition of pharmacies this year,” the statement added.
