Tribute

Mike graduated from the University of Leicester with a BPharm in 1960, and took his first job at Jesse Boot’s original store in Nottingham. Following a brief period as the manager of Dean & Smedley’s branch in Burton-upon-Trent, Mike moved to Thetford to open his own pharmacy in 1962. In the early 1970s, Mike moved the business to Brandon, Suffolk, where he worked until his retirement in 1991.

Mike was elected to the Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1984, working on various committees and appointments of the secretary of state. Mike shared fond memories of entertaining dignitaries on the top floor of the Society’s headquarters, which overlooked Lambeth Palace. He was once joined on the balcony by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie, who declared that it enjoyed a better view of his garden than he did!

Mike passed away peacefully at St Nicholas Hospice in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, surrounded by family, and was buried in Brandon, Suffolk, alongside his beloved wife, Jane.
