Pharmacists will be asked to choose from the same three standards for their reflective accounts for revalidation next year, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has announced.
Following its council meeting on 10 October 2019, the pharmacy regulator said in a statement that keeping the same standards for both the 2019/2020 and the 2020/2021 revalidation cycles “will enable registrants to build on the experience they have developed in the first year and to incorporate feedback obtained from the first year”.
As part of the revalidation process, pharmacists can choose one or more of the following three standards to reflect on: standard three — pharmacy professionals must communicate effectively; standard six — pharmacy professionals must behave in a professional manner; and standard nine — pharmacy professionals must demonstrate leadership.
The GPhC added that maintaining the same standards for reflection “will also minimise any confusion amongst registrants about which standards they should reflect on”.
“As the reflective account is an integral part of the revalidation framework, making it as easy as possible for registrants is key,” it said.
The GPhC has nine standards for pharmacy professionals in total, all of which the regulator said “continue to be important”.
