Tribute to Ahilan Kathirgamathamby

On 19 July 2016, Ahilan Kathirgamathamby, beloved son and brother, passed away after an eight year battle with cancer. He was 38 years old. Ahilan worked as a pharmacist for ten years, adoring the people he worked with and the community he served. Throughout his life, he selflessly supported his family, never asking for anything in return.

Ahilan’s favourite book was The Lord of the Rings and his favourite films were the Star Wars series. He adored fantasy and science fiction because these genres offer hope even in the bleakest of times. Ahilan was the physical embodiment of hope; however, the greatest gift he gave us was love. He adored the night sky, finding wonder in the stars above. He told us that if he passed away, we could find him in his favourite book, films and the night sky. We invite you to seek Ahilan in all of his favourite places. A star in the Andromeda constellation has been named in his honour and, just like the star, Ahilan will shine forever bright.

He is survived by his parents, Balasubramaniam and Sakuntala Kathirgamathamby, and sisters, Vaani and Umah Kathirgamathamby.

A funeral service will be held at the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium on 1 August 2016 at 11am.
