RPS to dispel ‘myths’ around summary care record

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has launched a survey to explore how pharmacists in England use the summary care record (SCR).

The survey will be used to update the Society’s Quick Reference Guide (QRG) to the SCR. The guide was first published in 2015 and the RPS said the updated version will include a section that dispels “common myths about how the SCR can be used”.

The SCR, which is created from GP records, contains information on patients’ medications, allergies and adverse reactions. It may also include information about any long-term conditions, care preferences and carer details. The SCR is accessible to community pharmacies on a read-only basis: its use in pharmacies was first trialled in April 2014, and NHS data show that 95% of pharmacies in England now have access.
